Is This Oil Healthier than Olive Oil?

Surprising research is showing that a tropical oil has some interesting and beneficial properties. What oil is this?

Coconut oil.

Coconut oil is showing itself to have a wide variety of uses with it’s antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-fungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, and antiviral properties. It also doesn’t hurt that you can both apply it topically and ingest it for your benefit.

One of the amazing substances in coconut oil is Lauric acid. Lauric acid comprises about 50% of coconut oil and is the same fatty acid found in human breast milk. According to WebMD, Lauric acid has beneficial uses ranging from fighting influenza in a variety of forms, to fighting fever blisters and cold sores, to fighting genital herpes and genital warts, to fighting HIV and AIDS. In fact Lauric Acid is used to prevent transmission of HIV/AIDS from an infected mother to her child.

Some even suggest that Lauric acid is particularly effective in fighting colorectal cancer. It seems that Lauric acid poisons cancer cells by increasing oxidative stress on the cells while simultaneously reducing glutathione levels in the body, which cancer cells use to resist oxidative stress.

Still other information indicates that coconut oil can help with Type-2 diabetes and also prevent hair loss. Don’t forget that coconut oil helps improve the LDL to HDL ratio in the blood which can help with heart disease, and can assist in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

All of these benefits may cause a person to wonder why we haven’t heard about all of these benefits before. It’s really simply an issue, which pharmaceutical companies that fund the medical schools and medical research at universities, can’t prevent competition when selling a naturally-occurring product such as a food item. Therefore, that item will not be marketed. Frankly, there is no big money for those companies in those natural foods.
